Moving to Toronto

I'll be moving to TO soon. I know there are tons of Canucks on this board and am looking for some advice from these folks.

I'll be looking for a studio not too far from U of T. What's the going range for a studio around those parts ? My budget's around $700-800.

Also will be looking for a job once I get there..yep one more on the bandwagon. I know it's gonna be tough, but surely things are being blown out of proportion ? Any job tips aside from the usual ?

Edit: bachelors degree in physics from Canada, overseas workexperience of couple of yrs
 
Moved here about 2 months ago. Spent the first month preparing for level one and lightly looking for a job. Got an entry level position at a decent Company. I graduated with a finance and eco degree 2 years ago. Since then I worked overseas (not in finance).

Were you working in finance overseas? I don't know what your looking for but if you have level 2 and a few years experience there are jobs going around.
 
No, it's mostly non-Finance (Physics Research based) work experience......that's part of the problem, or maybe not, since it's a way to differentiate myself.

My first problem is to figure out where to stay....I'll probably be looking for places close to the Eaton center .......downtown core if I'm not mistaken. How did you find a place and where did you end up leasing ? How about the job......did you have any contacts or did you start sending out resumes like crazy ? How're the expenses racking up.......grocery, night out, transport,......

As far as finding a place to stay, one of your better bets is Toronto's Craig's List at toronto.craigslist.org - you are right in around the range for a studio downtown though.

In terms of jobs, unless you have access to Toronto's CFA society job board it might be a tough go. IFIC.ca sometimes has analyst positions as well as workopolis.com.

With your background you might be able to land an analyst position though the lack of experience will obviously hurt you. Some firms here though do look for people without the experience so that they can "mold" them. Good luck ...

700-800 Canadian Dollars to live downtown ? Holy crap I thought Toronto was a city city, those are pretty good prices.
 
A bachelors will run you $900 easily anywhere near toronto. In USD, thats around your budget I guess.
