What's the best music to listen to while studying - Cognition and Retention?

Which wave Brain wave is best for learning? Alpha, Beta or Theta?

"For Whom The Bell Tolls"--Metallica

Putting your head next to a microwave while you nuke burritos will settle the issue of the appropriate brain wave choice.

I tried a lot of different types of music before I found what worked for me.

Surprisingly, it was European techno, from free Internet radiocasts. CFA studying is the only time in my life I listen to that stuff, but I have to say it works for me.

I find any music with lyrics just too distracting, I guess.

Baroque
Mozart
Beethoven's Pastorale

I think what wore out my first min-disc player was using it all the time while writing. I then started using iTunes and iTunes radio and played the MostlyClassical station.

I usually listen to Mozart (piano concerti, sonatas, symphonies)

NSYNC & BSB, since I can't find my spicegirls CD

Dudes, check out the station Groovesalad on soma.fm. This music is ideal for studying. Hardly any vocals and soothing.

I agree. It's too hard to concentrate when you're listening to music with vocals.

Some old Oakenfold stuff (live in Ibiza, Cream etc)...

Sometimes i need something to rile me up so ill throw on slipknot, staind, godsmack...

and of course you can't forget the old Biggie and 2 pac to round it out (and remind you of college/highschool for those of you in your mid 20s like me)

Classical...Both the old materpieces and the new stuff

I agree with those who can't study when the music has lyrics. I used to be able to do it in college but when studying for the CFA I found it too distracting. Now it's strictly classical and jazz for me.

I see many programs in the internet that technically tweak the Sonatas and concertos to maximize its effect of learning. But I was wondering if anyone here have personally tried them:
Holosync, TMM, mozart Effect etc.

wu tang clan - C.R.E.A.M

to remind you why youre studying 20 hours a week.

Never tried/heard of these. Didn't even realize such a thing existed. How is the music technically "tweaked"?

instrumental are all good...

and if I'm struggling with complex stuffs e.g. FSA!!! then silence is all i need.
