My First Consulting Interview!... need your thoughts

Hi,

I have a interview tomorrow for a Analyst job in a consulting firm. The work is project-based market and financial analysis for location based entertainment, real estate development, public-policy, tourism and economic development. The firm has large corporate clients all over the world and does a lot of projects in Asia. There is a fair amount of domestic and international travel involved.

Would this be CFA qualifying experience? I've pasted the description below

My job now qualifies, so as a L2 candidate I need to take your opinions into consideration.

Our Client is an international consulting firm focused on project-based market and financial analysis for location based entertainment, real estate development, public-policy, tourism and economic development.
Position Description
Analysts in the Entertainment and Leisure Practice research and analyze emerging entertainment concepts and leisure industry development projects in domestic and international locations. Working with a professional team of experts in land use economics, analysts and associates develop supporting analyses to test the market and financial viability of new attractions, gaming projects, entertainment oriented real estate developments, and other land use initiatives.

Project covered by the Entertainment and Leisure Group include:

� Theme & Amusement Parks
� Casino Resorts
� Entertainment Attractions
� Sports
� Museums & Cultural Institutions
� Film and TV Industry
� Zoos & Aquariums

Qualifications

� Working knowledge of financial modeling, real estate and/or land-use economics
� 1 to 4 years experience in entertainment, consulting, finance, or planning (experience can be obtained in Corporate Finance, Consulting, or a Big 4 Audit Firm)
� Interest in the entertainment, recreation and leisure industries
� Foreign language proficiency preferred (Mandarin Chinese in particular)
 
haha! i'm still curious if this job would meet the CFAI requirements - if by some miracle I have enough time to study for L2 in this job. Part of me wants to chill out and work in an easy job and pass L2, but most of me realizes that this is a pretty good opportunity. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I gotta sell myself first.
 
bump - does anyone have any thoughts on the CFAI eligibility of the job? (description above)
 
CFA Charter and Regular Membership Guidelines: Work Experience




Note: These guidelines apply if you became a candidate for the 2005 exam cycle or thereafter. For candidates who registered for the CFA Program prior to the 2005 exam cycle, and have passed Level I, different guidelines will apply.



Amount

Four years of acceptable professional work experience are required for regular membership. An individual must be a regular member to be eligible for the award of the CFA Charter. This experience may be accrued while the candidate is in the CFA Program, after the candidate has passed all three levels of exams, or from previous positions.



You are required to spend at least 50 percent of your time in these activities to accrue the required professional work experience. Summer, part-time, and internship positions do not qualify.



Type

Acceptable professional work experience as it relates to applicants seeking to become charterholder members, or regular members, includes activities that consist to a majority extent of:

(i) evaluating or applying financial, economic, and/or statistical data as part of the investment decision-making process involving securities or similar investments, which includes, but is not limited to, publicly traded and privately placed stocks, bonds, and mortgages and their derivatives; commodity-based derivatives and mutual funds; and other investment assets, such as real estate and commodities, if these other investment assets are held as part of a diversified, securities-oriented investment portfolio; or

(ii) supervising, directly or indirectly, persons who practice such activities; or

(iii) teaching such activities.
 
Someone involved in real estate development does not deal with a
"diversified, securities-oriented investment portfolio" but is certainly part of the investment process.

How broad is CFAI's interpretation of this language?

for discussion purposes, if this is the kind of work you want to do, why do you want the cfa? it seems really cool but it doesn't, to me at least, seem to fit too well under the cfa tent.

i would recommend that you fit your designations around the career you want, not your career around the designations you want (or think you need).

if its a job you want and think would enjoy, take it. and don't think twice about whether it counts toward work experience requirements towards the charter.

You won't get this job because you didn't go to an Ivy. But that's OK with me, all is as it should be in this world.
 
The place is full of UCLA grads. Both of my interviewers went to Anderson. The managing partner was impressed by where I went to school, so I think that was a small plus.

I personally think that UVA's MBA program is one of the best. It is certainly one of the most rigourous academically. After HBS, Darden is probably the best place to go for the case method. I would much rather live in Charlottesville than Cambridge for two years. And my Dad got his law degree at UVA...
 
great Danteshek, over the course of several postings here, i assume you have now gone into into excruciating detail about the education of your entire family lineage...or are we not done yet?

Actually I think I will only apply to UVA and 2 other schools ( def Cornell and either Tuck or UNC depending on how much my GMAT improves when I take it in two weeks). I don't want to be too caught up in the process while I'm studying for level 2.
