Hi all,
I am not so good at economics and even though i revised the schwebser materials twice, I still failed most of practice questions for economics help…
Any tips to study economics? thanks a ton!

although it makes up a small percentage of the exam, nevertheless its still important. But yea its more difficult to understand than the rest in my opinion.
i think schweser was helpful in econs. so y not try re-reading this time but slower and with understanding and trying out the case questions at the end of the section before attempting the more difficult ones in the practise exams?

Economics should make sense, and you should be able to relate it to your everyday life.
Elan does a much better job with Econ imo, but if you already studied from Schweser, start going through as many practice questions as you can and review.
Btw, the best book to understand economics is Principles of Economics by Gregory Mankiw imo, but if you’re sitting for dec, skip this info or save it for later :)

Economics can be difficult, particularly microeconomic theory. The most important things to grasp for this exam are essential macro concepts (interest rate determination, inflation, bond/yield relationship, etc.) and applications to macroeconomic policy (e.g. money supply/interest rate relationship, etc.).

I respectfully disagree with defone. I think micro (Readings 13-20) is tested slightly more heavily than macro (Readings 21-28). There’s not shortcuts here. You must understand the material. Elan gives out a free econ book if you want to go through that. If you’re still not doing well after reading schweser twice you have some major problems. Elan’s videos are very thorough, but do you have the time and the money to fork out on those? Check out their final stretch package.
Also tell me which practice questions you are alluding to? CFA EOC or Schweser Qbank? The Qbank econ questions are sometimes extremely vague so it could be that you’re beating yourself up about nothing.

Thanks guys,
Perhaps I have major problem:(. anw, personally i would not recommend ppl to read schweser for economics. In my opinion, it was not really well-written and explained…too bad, I don’t have any other materials and the CFA volumn itself sounds not better, plus too wordy. I will try Elan
I did well for practice questions after each readings, but not for exam practice questions…
especially questions about different markets like perfect competition, mono, obliology…
I am thinking of skipping reading materials, just try doing questions, then read & learn along.
Cheers,

To be honest, I though CFAI text was really good for Econs and FRA. Ethics too. The rest just go with Schweser.

If U want my advice, this is my story with economy;
Actually for my first looking @ economy I was disappointed, but after I used Schweser videos I got the opposite impression about it, for me I have to get approximately full mark on economy, because when U understand the concept U will be able to solve any problems. Good luck.
Schweser videos, definitely will added value to U.

There’s no substitute for knowing the material. Practicing questions alone won’t teach you economics. Did you try Elan?

Thanks supersunny138. thats a good idea to look for video learning materials. I can watch it during lunch time too:)
I just got free econ book from Elan. Seems quite good, i think better than schebweser.
Thank u all! will try to make it work!!!

I had some of the same issues. What helped me was studying those graphs. Just know everything you can about what makes curves shift and what causes movements ALONG the curves. I think that after studying those and taking practice questions you’ll be just fine. Just remember to study why you got things wrong.
