Hey all,
I’m new here (& to the CFA) but I’m interested and keen on taking the June 2012 Level 1 exam.
It’d be great if I can get some advice and information on the study guides available out there that can help me learn faster.
Should I study using the CFA Program Curriculum 2012 (volumes 1-6) that is provided by the CFA Institute and follow the study plan provided there?
I’ve been advised and heard a bit about Schweser. Does it condense the readings of the CFA Program Curriculum that is provided to us by the CFA Institute? Would it be smarter and more efficient to use Schweser.
Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Each individual is different. My advice to you would be to check out Schweser and Elan’s free samples and see if they help you. Most people do use supplementary materials because they are more efficient.

Whether you choose to use the CFAI materials or Schweser, make sure you work the problems from the CFAI materials, since the test will be based on that material and not any practice exams or questions you find in Schweser.

Thanks. Do you think it’s too late to start studying for the June exam? Should I wait until the December exam? Will the December 2012 exam have the same study material to the June 2012 exam? Would I re-buy the curriculum if I fail the June 2012 exam? :S

I dont think its too late to take the June exam, i have read that people taking the June exam started studying around march, it all depends on your financial background and how you pick up the problems. I just singed up for the June exam and will have the Study Notes by Scheweser by tuesday

You are on time and in time. I would suggest go with schweser. I started off with it in Feb last year and completed 1st reading by 1st week of May. revised the syllabus in 3 weeks 2 times and appeared in 3 mocks. Did ethics first two readings from CFAI books and all end of chapter questions in the last month before the exam. Not only passed the exam but passed it without finance background and in first attempt. So +1 for Schweser.
PS: Don’t get late try making a decision asap and come to the point of no return.
