not practicing AM session... regrets?

i recall a month or two ago, a candidate on here said he wasn’t planning on doing any practice exams because he/she never did any for L1 and L2 and did great on those…. although we all argued against that approach for L3, i’m curios if he/she stuck with that approach and, if so, how much he/she is banging his/her head the against the wall every night in reget.
 
Nothing sets you up for failure like not practicing.

Speaking for myself. I took only 2 AM mocks and wish I’d have taken a lot more. I wasn’t nearly as prepared for the time constraints of the AM session as I could have been. I’d be surprised that anyone could have any great success on AM session if they did NO mocks at all. Looking back, 2 was not enough for me; I’m just hoping not being prepared enough for AM doesn’t cost me a pass. Cautiously optimistic that I passed but who knows.
 
I wholeheartedly agree that practice for AM session is a must for L3. I never did Mock in L1 and did only 2 mocks in L2 (that too just for the sake of getting adjusted to 6 hours of grilling process). But for L3 AM session, you have to practice it.
I am glad I did practice few in the last two weeks which gave me an idea of how to tackle in the actual exam. Although in the real exam, there is more time pressure and you are bound to do some minor mistakes which you may have avoided in mocks. Without AM mocks, it would have been major blunder.
 
I met a guy who took only the Schweser Practice 1 & 2 and what was available on cfa. However he was glad to see that there are old AMs. I think that the best preparation were old exams, cause those were exactly what you could expect to see. I only used 2009 - 2014, since I believe that the focus changed a bit during the last years.
 
I went to the Level Up bootcamp with Marc Lefebvre. He put together the past ten years’ AM exams, itemized by study session, and irrelevant questions scrubbed. It was awesome prep. I think the best way to prepare for the AM is to do the previous years’ AM questions.

I was the one who asked the question the OP has mentioned in his post.
Yes, I did not take any mock exams for Level 1 and 2.
This time, I just went over the CFA exams. Didn’t take them as an actual exam and just went over the answers and I think I did fine on the exam.
Idea is to know and understand the concepts. For that, I read and re-read the Schweser.
Time will tell if I will pass or not but I think both the AM and PM were pretty straightforward (including Ethics).
I hope I did not mess up!
 
i think it depends on the individual on whether practice exams will benefit them…
That being said, i think it’d benefit most…
 
I have never done a mock exam. On L2 I did the CFA EOC questions twice. For L3 I did the CFA EOC questons twice and went through the last 3 years AM questions as I went through my final review during the final week. As I reviewed each section I did the correxsponding AM questions and read the answers.
I haven’f failed one yet an don’t expect that to change this time.
 
I only practiced with Q-bank but not a single actual AM mock exam. I was behind schedule since i got sick before the exam so there was no time. Also, I took a CFA mock for L2 last year and scored around 46% which crushed my confidence completely, even though I passed the actual exam then. I’ve signed up now because it is super-likely that I got to spend another year here.

i feel blessed to have all of these resources. The year when magician got his cfa, mocks were sent by pigeons
 
i didn’t clear 50% in any of the 5 AM mock exams that i did………yes, got humbled each time………but then again, i will probably need to register for level 3 again come August
 
You don’t know the material. Your time should be spent learning the material, not failing mocks. That’s why you’ll be going again next year.
