NYSSA - Do we have to wait count down to reach zero?

I was told NYSSA meets once a month to approve new members, I hope it’s this week.

When I spoke to CFAI, they told me that local society membership was not a requirement. They said they send approved work experience to local societies to “kick the tires”, proverbially speaking. Generally, the local society won’t approve unless dues are paid. As a result, the CFAI waits the 30 days to hear back from the society, and if they don’t within that time they approve your membership at decision day 0. Ethical conundrum? You be the judge…

@gotham - I called NYSSA. mircaculously someone picked up the phone. I called because I wanted to know how long will it take for them to approve the work experience. They said that if we pay the membership fee now, they can approve it instantly. But if we don’t want to pay, we have to wait and let the decision days expire to 0.

just tried to pay NYSSA, but it reverts back to CFAI website so you have to wait on CFAI. There is nothing more I can do, but wait…

1. Has the CFAI approved your status (I’m assuming they have, but want to make sure)
2. Do you have a log-in at NYSSA? If not, I believe if you create one you can pay that way. Clicking on join will redirect to CFAI website, and I assume you’ve started that process and are in the queue at NYSSA.
If you register and go to your account and click on “Become a Member” on the left. I’m pretty sure you can pay that way.

“Associate New Member” I’m assuming we want to select? $325

Gotham - thank you very much I figured it out and just paid NYSSA $325 for Associate Membership - 1 yr.
I am hoping this will now speed up the application process.

You got it, not 100% but I’m pretty sure you wanted Affiliate based on the descriptions from their website (pasted below). Give them a ring to confirm.

Correction: You do not want Affiliate membership. You want Regular membership and when you try this option in NYSSA it kicks you back to CFAI site so there is not much more that can be done.
I have to try and cancel my Affiliate membership now… frustrating.

I came across old threads where even though people paid dues to NYSSA, they didn’t get approvals right away.
Don’t count on it. I guess.

achtungbaby - re-reading this, I’m confused. Originally you signed up for an Associate membership (see below)? And here you’re saying you have to cancel your Affiliate membership? Also, are you saying you have to wait for an invoice from NYSSA to be able to become a Regular member. Sorry for all the back and forth.

Hi Gotham,
I am set now. What happened is I signed up for Associate membership and paid $325, but after NYSSA and CFAI approved my membership I got upgraded to Regular membership for NYSSA so it wasn’t a big deal. However, I did email NYSSA requsting the upgrade so there was no mix up.
Thank you for all your help. The long process is over.
Mike

yes I am a Charterholder now.
Yes paying NYSSA was the key to speading up the process. I reached out to CFAI and they said the hold up was at NYSSA.
Reach out to: Christine Saldana. [email protected]
She can assist with membership approval.

Why do u guys have to wait from societies to get approved whereas CFAI can get the work-experience done for membership? - When you pay for membership you have to pay for local society.. and within days everything gets approved.. I don’t understand why societies hold up people?
