Is anyone a member? How is the job network feature for NYSSA. Many thanks.

Really? I have subscribed to CFAI's jobline. It does not have that many postings.

One more question, does the NYSSA only have local jobs, or it is national?

I think its national, but heavy weight on Tristate (NY-NJ-CT)

Thanks. It's very useful information before I pay $200 for an affiliate membership.

If you are in New York and can attend the events they do, the membership is definitely worth the cost.

If you can't attend events, then it may make more sense to use the CFA JobLine; however, as a NYSSA member, you can listen to podcasts and webcasts of some NYSSA events, and I've found them useful.

You'll need two people to sponsor/recommend you in your application. I'm not prepared to sponsor people I've just met through a few posts on a bulletin board, but you should know that CFA charterholders are required to be members of their local societies, so any people you know in NYC with CFAs are probably members of NYSSA and are good people to hit up for sponsorship.

I've been with NYSSA since late last year and the seminars are always very informative and fun. The networking events are even better (bowling, golf, river cruise). If you've been in the business for a few years you might also want to sign up for the SEMI Mentoring Program (little late to sign up now, perhaps next summer!). It's a program for students still in college that are looking for guidance, advice, and someone to talk to on a regular basis. If you guys are interested I can get you in contact with the head person (I'm actually co-mentoring a student myself) and you can express you interests to her.

One more thing, if you guys ever attend a NYSSA event, you might want to post it to this board since AF posters are lurk everywhere... Would be a fun place to meet up for a quick chat.

Thanks, guys. There are a few people at my firm that are chartered. I am gonna ask them if they can sponsor me. I hope my work experience won't be a problem though. I mainly handle trade executions here. The job does not even involve that much thinking let alone decision making.

I will try my best though.
