"Optional Reading" section --- Important or not?

Hi, I'm a newbie here & I already start studying & I notice that in the CFA materials there are a lot of OPTIONAL READING section in every readings ---> are they really litterally optional, to the fact that they will not consider in the exam & just a plain section for the readers to understand the LOS? thanks! :)
 
Sounds obvious, but .... read everything you can but dont get carried away. Focus on the bascis and the most heavily weighted sections (ie FSA and Ethics). Once you are comfortable with the basics move to optional material and out some colour around what you have learnt
 
Skip it. Optional = optional = option so you are free to do it or not.

sometimes it's interesting but just be aware that it won't pay off in the actual exam.
 
I started reading them last October and stopped because of AF. Stopping was a good call.
 
Thumbing through the optional reading sections is probably the greatest feeling in the world.
 
I think you should only look at the optional section if you are having trouble with a particular area and the optional provides more information or context on what you are having trouble with.

When I started I was planning on reading through everything, but after a week I was getting burned out. Its much too long without using the notes.
 
i never did any optional items - but usually when i skimmed it, it was background information that i was already versed in. if you don't have a finance/accting background you may want to consider looking at it...
