Congratulations to the new CFA Charterholders.
I have 2 specific questions.
1. Does order of study matter? I have heard Behavioral finance is a sleep inducer. So will starting with pvt wealth management be ok?
2. For June 2014,How far back should I go with respect to past CFAI mocks, Both AM and PM, keeping in mind the changes in curriculum and the fact that practice is the key for level III
Thanks.

Yeah, make sure you go through past CFA exams 2008 onwards, they are really useful and can give you a sense of time needed to complete them.
As for order, make sure you go through private wealth mgm before tackling the asset classes. Behavioural can wait. But keep enough time at the end for GIPS because it can be time- and brain cell-consuming.

by 2008 you mean , both AM & PM CFAI mock exams?. the search is on with some success.
so 2008 to 2014 mock exams for PM
2008 to 2013 past AM exams for AM

Since most people run out of time near the end, I’d do the past AM exams in the order of most recent ones first.
I did the behavioural readings starting in Nov, because those are sleep inducing and you won’t remember anything when you review again. However they are easiest to pick up through notes so your review won’t take as long. If you read the highly technical things first you are won’t be able to review it as fast later on as you’ll probably need to re-learn things.

I would do everything in order (except Ethics). Behavioral Finance lays the framework for assessing risk tolerance in the IPS section. It’s boring as hell, but I wouldn’t do it out of order.

Where can these past PM Mock exams be found? I am also a Level 3 Band 8 retaker and the PM section looks like the reason I didn’t get through. Any help in locating these past mocks would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Then how can someone “hunt them down” and do all the mocks from 2008 onward?

1. No, you don’t need to read in sequence, but behavioral finance is relatively easy read because there is nothing to “understand” or figure out. you just read through it once and probalby go back to the summary later and you will be fine.
2. Ideally you would like to write at least 8 mock exams. It really depends on how many mock exams you purchase. Personally by L2 and L3 i have purchased both Book 1 and 2 from Schweser, so there are 6 exams already. Then there is a mock exam on CFAI website, and as for past exams, i managed to find 6 (AM only), but i may have only done 3-4 of them.

1. I would not study Ethics or GIPS until the end (May-ish). And I would give BH a once-over, then come back to it after you’ve done the rest of the curriculum. It’s real easy to get bogged down in it.
2. I would only go back three years. It’s pretty safe to go back three years, because the material doesn’t change that much, at least not what they test on the AM.

Behavioural finance is boring alrite.Started with pvt wealth management. currently half way through.seems deceptively easy to study but it has been pointed out clearly that solving AM format questions is the key.
I needed a thourough review for level II before i could start with mocks. This helped because what i got wrong on the mcoks was only on account of 2 reasons. 1) I forgot 2) I had not understood the concept in its entireity.
This enabled focussed review of all stuff i got wrong .
Will compelte the 1st reading and then decide future course of action.

Thanks for the advice. So you suggest reading Behavioral Finance first if only for its use in IPS.

I know someone who may have past PM mocks starting 2009 and past AM papers too. That person is however reluctant to admit even having them.

Nana—- in India means either ” no no ” or maternal grandfather :D:D
thanks for your suggestions.appreciate it.

Greenman
thanks. I have yet to even glance at GIPS. I will try to read BH once so it helps in IPS.

I disagree with whoever said order is not important. You should read the materials in order, don’t skip around, it will immediately organize your thinking and there will be a clear progression through the material as you go through it. Otherwise, you’ll disproportionately study for one section vs another.
