Another bit of data that might help those taking L1 in Dec07 or June08:

Did you use some kind of online practice software (Q-bank,Passmaster, whatever) and whether you passed or failed?
Thanks

Q-bank - was fairly helpful - questions are much easier than the real thing, but it's good for reinforcing concepts.
schweser book 6 practice exams - very useful - more like the real thing than book 7 (the practice exam book).
schweser book 7 (practice exam book) - somewhat useful, would recommend if you have the time. Questions here are wordier and more quantitative than the real thing (and more difficult in general).
BSAS Mock exams - very good - some errors, but the style of question was closer the the real thing than the schweser exams.
CFAI mock exams - It is somewhere between absurd and ridiculous that the CFAI charges you $50 for 1/4 of a practice exam. I refused to buy one.

I'm confident they charge what they believe to be close to their all-in cost. Irrelevant to me, as I billed it in.

I found them very helpful.

What makes you think that? BSAS and Schweser charge a lot less.

And I'm sure they were helpful, I just think they are overpriced.

Q Bank - failed
I thought the questions were much easier than the test.
I may try the mock exams, assuming I take the beast a third time.

CFAI is not a price taker as we should know about monopolies... its products are bound to be expensive

CFA reports itself as a non-profit organisation I read on the website. The US$50 covers Pacific Coffee, buffalo leather sofas that the CFA Practise Exam Committee sit on when they're thinking up the questions, wooden back scratchers and other miscallaneous deductable items.

Just joking hehe...so I don't violate any Standards that reflect poorly on the profession.

Haha...probably true.

Actually, you can criticize the CFAI as much as you'd like.
