When calculating the pass rate, do they count on only those who actually showed up the date of the exam? Or is it a pass rate taking those who passed from the registered people? I’ve been told many registered people do not even go to the exam…

1 in 4 registered end up not showing up for the exam.
To be in the official pass-fail statistic, you must show up for both AM and PM sections of the exam.
So, 40% pass rate = out of 10 people that showed up for the entire exam, 4 pass.

That’s shocking news to me!!!
1 in 4 is a lot, is that just an average of 3 levels? i would assume it happens more in L1. but 1 in 4 is still a lot.
 
itera is correct. the official pass rate is based only on the people who show up for both sessions.

I noticed that too, i wonder why… i mean, even if i know for sure i didn’t pass i may as well sit through the PM jsut to get some practice, and if they don’t care at all, why would they show up for AM?

I never worried about pass rates when I took the exams. I only focused on what I could control, which was the time and effort I put into studying for the exams.
 
^ Once you’ve decided to take the exam, I agree that the pass rate is meaningless. I suspect though that the L1 pass rate plays a role for many people in their decision to even try or not.
 
I don’t think anybody knows about this topic because it is a kind of voilation when you are disclosing or confirming about the matters that CFA institute doesn’t want to disclose it into the public.
CFA INSTITUTE haven’t issued any kind of article on such issue, So how can anybody tells you to calculate it.
 
If you sit for the exam, your chance of passing is strictly greater than 0%. The only opportunity cost are the 7.5 hours of your life sitting the exams and the anxiety before getting that e-mail.

I remember when I took Level 1. Results were posted on the CFAI website, prior to receiving the email. Thus, everyone flooded the site and I couldn’t get through until lunch time EST of test results day.
