Pen on Essay Portion

Anyone have insight regarding the CFAI’s strong recommendation of a #2 pencil or erasable pen for the essay portion??
Coming from actuarial exams, I definitely prefer pens (non-erasable) when writing. Just not sure why they “strongly recommend” the other two and not the non-erasable/ normal kind.

Im using a non erasable pen.. havent really had a problem with having to erase whole lines of work.. will use a small corner of answer template to scratch and refine answer below clearly.. with arrows and circles
