Please help with job interview

Hey guys/ gals,

Has anyone had any interviews for an analyst position in Debt Capital Markets? If yes what sort of questions were asked? In addition can anyone provide some general info on Debt Capital Markets, like how do they compare vs. equities? How the presitage level of debt capital markets vs. some other IB functions, good exit ops after 2 yrs? etc.

Expect your standard IB questions, likely technical until you prove you know your stuff. If you struggle with the first few tech questions, expect to get hammered or sent home early.

As for comparing to other positions...depends on the bank and what exactly you do when your there. FICC is huge growing area, so it is a little sexier. Equities tends to be more in line with the CFA and will always look good because there won't be a question as to your financial analysis abilities.

After the 2 years...it is somewhat of a niche position, but again a major growing profit center which means opportunities. You are focused very specific to one area and as a reult you gain a particular skill and knowledge. Corp Fin is like the jack of all trades and those analysts tend to fair the best on the open market. All and all, FICC is a great place to be and if it is with a bulge firm you are golden.

As far as the job, it can be exciting. You are in a product group and as a result are brought in on all kinds of transactions, really anything that requires debt. You will become an expert in raising and structuring debt for transactions. If you want more detailed info check out the group descriptions at the big banks as well as job descriptions. Past that, read your vault and wetfeet guides. Need more, contact an alumn or anyone in that position at a bank.
