In 2011, for essay 1 for >70%, 3 for between 50% and 70%, 5 for <50% and for item set, 3 for >70%, 3 for between 50% and 70%, 2 for <50%. Therefore, I was in band 9.
In 2012, for essay 0 for >70%, 3 for between 50% and 70%, 6 for <50% and for item set, 3 for >70%, 5 for between 50% and 70%, 1 for <50%. Therefore, I was in band 5.
I did better in item set and worse in essay in 2012 than in 2011. Thresore, I assumed pretty much same band can be expected but result was very different. What do yo think?

I think in Level III the dispersion of candidate scores is tighter than in the other levels. Therefore, you could easily change bands with a relatively small difference.

You should have passed in 2011. Failure could be result of unforced errors and perhaps absence of concise, direct and most compelling answer to question asked. Below is my strategy to counter the two.
ELIMINATING UNFORCED ERRORS
1. When writing answers in CFA exam, Label main question question with sub part e.g 1 (A). Double check answer number matches the printed question number on printed answer and question on the question paper.
2. Double check numbers copied from question.
3. Double check you answersed the question correctly after writing your answer.
WRITING CONCISE, BULLETED, DIRECT AND MOST COMPELLING ANSWER TO QUESTION ASKED
1. Finish 1st detailed and 2nd detailed reading of material by end of April
2. Practice answering real questions CFA style. Use all past CFA exams. Use all Scheweser practice exams. Devote time equally between essay and item sets. Both carry equal wt. Must do well in both.
