Probabilty is whupping my butt

yeah it sucked, read it so many times that you think further repitition is useless, and you'll start getting it. Just battle it.

You do not really need to know it, or atleast you did not for the december 05 exam.

I spent an unusually long time on probability (session 2, reading 9).

Here are my thoughts:

1. the CFAI materaisl are poorly written. I've been able to easily work problems related to this same topic within other sources....but still struggle with the CFAI stuff.

2. it has a relatively low point significance on the exam, so do the best you can, then move on....don't get bogged down on it.

3. teach12.com offers a great video series on statistics.....really helpful in understanding a lot of the same concepts. I have used a lot of theri stuff and it's all good. They also offer a series on economics. Their stuff is pricey but they often run sales in which certain products are heavily discounted.

I really stressed because I finished the first 8 readings quickly but then spent about 3 weeks on reading 9. For the most part I've got it now, but I should have spent a lot less time on it than I did given its low point value on the test.

For those who know then- Are a majority of the Quant problems on the test NPV, PV, FV, PMT and IRR problems or are they evenly divided between that and probability problems?

good to hear probability isn't tested that much on the exam because this is brutal. I'm really starting to lose my confidence

I actually like the prob and stat section because Ive had so many stats related classes in college, I'm hoping it will be one of my overkill sections

when i did the level 1 i found the quant section to potentially be the toughest questions on the exam. my advice is stick to your study plan and if you have time go back over the quant section. i gave quant more time than i should have when i did my last week of review for the exam and the quant section wasn't anywhere near the difficulty level that i expected.

get a good understanding of it, but don't give it too much time. get your points elsewhere if they do ask a tough probablity question in june. don't shortchange other areas that have the real potential to fail you. think about the big picture.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one struggling with probability.... Quant is one of the sections I spent the most time in, it's ridiculous... Econ was a breeze... now to FSA

some years prob. was a big part of quant, some years it isn't. just know it, they are easy points when you actually think about it.
