Is there any way to avoid the registration fee? The exam is $650 which is already insanely overpriced. Then I saw that in order to register for the exam I have to pay a registration fee for the ridiculous amount of $450. That’s $1100 just to take level 1 CFA!!! This amount is simply outrageous! So is there a way to register for the exam and only pay the exam fee? Also what would I get if I pay the $450 registration fee? Are there any studying materials or bonuses included for paying this fee or is it simply a profit making strategy?

you could apply for the scholarship.
The registration fee gives you nothing in return, other than an ID number and an account at CFAI. Your exam fees give you access to study materials (i.e. e-books, practice tests, and mock exams). You can get the physical books for $150 shipped to your door.
If you’re going to bitch about the exam fees, don’t even take the exam, because i can already tell you’re going to bitch about annual membership and society dues, assuming you pass all the exams and have the work experience.

You can simply in protest resuse to take the exam.
That’ll show ‘em.

The only chance to waive the fee is to go to CFA HQ and camp there with picket signs. Make sure to let the media and the Sanders campaign know when

Check and see if your employer will cover the costs?
Also, surely someone named “trickshady” can figure out a way around this injustice.

ROFL you made my day!
Well, I’m definitely not wasting time and money on this exam. The opportunity cost is simply too great for me. A friend just wanted to know, that’s it. Thanks for the replies ;)

Aw, you knew what opportunity cost meant. You could have passed Level 1 on that knowledge alone. See ya.
