I found this site yesterday and have found it very informativel thus far. I'm concerned about the format of my resume. I recently graduated college(Finance) and am now in search of an entry level financial analyst postion. I have applied to several opening with no success and I am wondering if my resume is to blame.

My work experience is not the bright spot on my resume and would like to stress education and skills over this. My current resume format is:

Objective
Education
Work history

I'm interested in hearing opinions on resume formats. Some resumes have a brief summary statement below the objective and maybe a brief section on computer skills?

Something like this, http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC063693971033.aspx?CategoryID=CT010317021033.

I contacted the HR department of the company I am trying to get in with and they said they search using key words. Does this include cover letters and the resume or just the resume? This could be the problem as most of the key words I use are on the cover letter.

Any help is appreciated!

When composing your resume, make sure that each bullet point starts with a powerful verb so that it will be picked up on the keyword search. Examples:

Created...
Developed....
Coordinated...
Supervised....
Planned....
Executed....
Delivered...

and so on.

Thanks for the tips tobias. I have done this for the most part in describing my previous jobs.

Would you include a section on computer skills?
Do keyword searches include cover letters or just resumes?>

Thanks

Leave out the objective statement. It takes up space and usually says something that is self-evident.

Objective: To find a job as in investment banking analyst.

The reader might have deduced that this was your objective, in that you applied for the job and all...
