We’ve had many a discussion about MPS and scores required.
But interested to hear from candidates who are retaking - what scores did you get in the mocks leading up to the test, and what was your non-pass banding in the end?

high 40s an low 50s on Schweser tests, schweser mock, and CFAI Mock. Band 9

Did you think you did better in the real exam than those mocks?
Band 9 means you were only a few marks off I assume.

I only managed 3 mocks last year. I don’t remember the specifics, particularly on the CFA mock (it’s in a closet in my house somewhere), but if I recall I was somewhere in the mid to high 50s on average, and I failed Band 9.
This year I’ve done 7 mocks, with an average of 70% on Schweser and Wiley mocks and I managed an 80% on the CFAI mock. Yeah, I was surprised too. I didn’t think I did quite that well when I finished the CFA mock.

good to know, i am scoring around 70 on schewser and 68% on cfai mock, i am nervous i feel i could go either way

Is this time the same than in CFA1 when is more valuable to be consistent along the topics (imaigne 3/4 every item set) than outperform in one (6/6) and under perform in another 1 or (2 of 6) or does not matter?
If matters would be quite unfair because in some topics only 6 questios could make the luck factor pass or fail….

Damn I don’t like what I’m hearing. I’m about 60% on mocks at the moment. I will pray to the Sun God Ra a million times over to grace me with luck on blind guesses .

Same 65-70, I feel in the hedge too.
I also feel de pressure becasue I expend a ridiculuss amount of time studying since Novemeber with no life so failure will hurt a lot… albeit being nervous only push you to one side… and you know what it is.
good luck !

i am exactly where you are, haha sent you a pm

I was Band 8 last year (3 sections below 50%, 1 above 70%). I only did a few mocks and was late to start studying after getting my L1 results in February. The mocks I did were somewhere in mid-to-high 50s, might have scored low 60s on a Schweser.
Feeling much better this time around with more mocks under my belt and higher scores..(high 70s on last 2 Schweser Practice Exams)

An embarrassingly band 3 last year after using Schweser for test prep. I felt Schweser was good for broad topics but it was the fringe material that they were really weak, and the entire time I felt they were trying to get you to memorize as opposed to actually comprehend why/how the idea worked. For some memorization is all they need, but I attribute a strong part of my poor performance on the mismatch between their teaching style and my learning style.
So to actually answer the question - Last year I was getting 60’s in Schweser mocks and finished the exam with Ethics and PM 51-70 and everything else less than 50…
This time I used Wiley and I couldn’t be happier. They tell you why you do something and explain it so memorization is more or less a byproduct of comprehension. Results in better scores and a lot less stress. I don’t need to remember the justified price/book formual since I understand the components GGM and can get from GGM to the JP/B in about 3 seconds.

Bro you were getting above 60s and came on band 3….
that. Is. Terrifying.

band 3 with 60s in mocks? No way. Did you fill in all the bubbles corresponding to the same question?

I never skip questions for that very fear.
I honesty was blown away by those results as well. I contemplated having them re-score my exam in the hopes of uncovering some mistake that was made but I didn’t…

wow dude. my mock scores arent very far off from yours…do you remember feeling like the actual exam was easier or harder than the mocks?

The mocks helped me figure out what equations were most likely going to be on the exam so they guided my studying. A lot of the actual and mock questions I flat out had no idea what they were asking for so band 9 was more lucky guessing. The not knowing what they were asking for was because after not understanding was mostly because after revie some sections 5 times and not understanding I gave up on them. This year I’m talking half or if need be full days on one section to at least understand the basics.

The biggest thing is making sure you do cfai worded questions in the last couple of days so you get s feel of what they are asking. I think schweser and cfai questions are the same level in terms of work. The difficulty is understanding what cfai is asking you to do or what to solve
