I just completed two rounds of phone interviews and have been called to the HQ for an all day interview for an "equity research analyst" position at a mid-tier Investment Bank.

I have about 6 interviews scheduled and they range from the Senior analyst I will be supporting to interviews with other equity analysts and institutional sales guys....

what questions can I expect? Any thoughts would be a lotta help...!

I.

Are you interviewing for a particular sector? If so, try to track down some of their research reports and read over them to try to get a basic understanding of the sector and companies that the group covers. Also, see if you can track down some research reports from competing companies to see how their perspective may differ. You may get asked some questions about the sector, so it would probably be in your best interest to have at least a basic understanding.

Also, come up with a few stocks you like and don't like and have a reasonable explanation why.

If you research the sector thoroughly enough, you should be able to come up with some insightful questions about the sector or particular companies within the sector.

As far as industry knowledge goes, I am pretty up to date on the industry, its trends, competitive landscape etc.....also pretty good with the technical aspects of the industry since it part of my job profile.

The idea about picking stocks and defending them (buy/sell) is a good idea. Thx!

The main area that has got me worried is the participation of the sales team in the interviewing panel. What kind of question will they ask? Stocks mostly? Trading kinda questions like what did the market do today? where is it going? Not sure what to expect there...

Also, will they have case study kind of questions.....given a set of data, tell me how you would calculate its intrinsic value etc..?

Search the forum for 'interview questions' - you'll get a million threads which you'll find useful.

I'd at least have a basic understanding of what the market has done recently and definitely how the companies within the sector have been performing (both fundamentally and stock price) , and if there are other specific indicators/commodities/etc that are important in your sector (i.e., if you're interviewing in Oil & Gas, know what's been happening with crude oil, etc).

Most likely. There have been some previous posts on this as DeadCat mentioned - you'll probably find some good info there.

Thanks darkstar and Deadcat for the feedback...very much appreciated.

Will be doing some good research the next couple of days and over the weekend. Hopefully, all goes well..... :)

CJ.
