For analyst , senior analyst positions. How much should you make including bonus given a MBA / CFA ?

An MBA/CFA is not related to how much you make, at least in my experience. If you don't have one or both, you likely won't be a senior analyst. On the sell-side, salaries range widely depending on the model (some compensate you strictly based on trading revenue in your stocks while others offer a salary and a discretionary bonus at the end of the year and yes, banking still factors in.) A good senior analyst on the sell side is likely earning $250K+, with the potential to earn twice that or far more if you're a star at a bulge bracket firm.

i agree, 250-400 is a good package for a senior analyst (with higher figures in some situations, but not as common).

it'll take you at least 3-4 years to get to that point from the day you walk into the research dept (with some exceptions to that rule).

Thanks. Good info to have

actually, maybe i was little wrong on the 3-4 years. some people will never become senior analysts (but usually figure this out early enough and leave to do something), while others do become senior analysts but take longer (5-6 years). 3-4 years is someone who's doing things properly.

One of the best machinery analysts on the street has only a BS in Finance from U of Florida.

There is an exception to every rule, Crunchy, but I wouldn't play the odds. I can tell you that at our firm of 10 Sr. analysts and 10 Jrs, only 1 total doesn't have either a CFA or MBA. Most of the guys over 35 have their MBA, most under 35 have both or are trying to finish up their CFAs.

That's surprising.
