anyone take them? i know they are by far less challenging than the cfa, but how long can a typical person study and be relatively confident they will pass?

On second thought, a week is a bit long for the 63. Could do it in two solid nights.

you passed your first try on both im assuming? any relation to the material on CFA level 1?

Yes. I studied for the 7 for 2 weeks solid and took it on a Tuesday, then registered for the 63 that Thursday and took Wed off to study. There is no direct overlap per se, except in some options type stuff, but I can recall thinking on a number of topics that they would be more difficult for someone who was neither experienced in Finance nor in the CFA program. If you passed level I, you should knock it out easily, but you do need to put in the time because there is regulatory stuff involved that might not be familiar or common sense.

Get the training materials from STC...if you can pass practice tests 9-12, you'll easily pass the 7...I would recommend taking the 66 (63/65 combined) rather than the 63.

If you've taken level 1, series 63, 65 or 66 should be a breeze.
Couple of hours should be enough. There is some overlap in the finance part and some new stuff in the regulations sections. The regulations is pretty straight forward (eg how many clients you can have in a state before you have to get licensed...). It is not as ambiguous as the cfa ethics part.

This has been discussed several times. My advice is always to take as many practice questions as you can (shoot for 3-5x as many questions as on the exam) and you should be fine. Give the series 7 about 5-10x the time/effort as the 63.

Thanks for the help guys...one last question, just as the CFA recommends a minimum of 250 study hours, what would be your opinion for the 7? is 40-50 hours enough?
