Can anyone recommend any study books to prepare for the series 7 exam?

I'd appreciate, thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me! Is it the Dearborn Passtrak?

Dearborn Passtrak is the same thing. Passtrak is just the title of some of their books.

Don't use Dearborn unless you want to fail. The best in the industry is STCUSA.

They have a much higher pass rate than Dearborn. Years ago I had a friend who used Dearborn and failed the exam 3 times in a row. I passed it on my first time with STC and studied roughly less than a month.

Don't believe me? Just look at the size of the books. STC has around 300-400 more pages last time I checked. The key though isn't the book but the drill and practice question CD-rom. That is your key to passing the exam.

I skimmed through the STC book reading it quickly, taking little to no notes. Then memorized almost every question on their CD rom. The CD rom was actually harder than the actual exam and I scored higher on the 7 than I did on the practice exams on the CD rom.

Good luck on the test.

If your friend failed the S7 3 times, he's a dullard. Its the equivalent of an 8th grade math test. It really doesnt matter what test prep you use, no one serious about this business should fail it.

That's true and he probably was a dullard. But he did have his masters degree. Guess he was no master.

At any rate, I don't know if I'd equate the exam to the 8th grade. :)

You ever hear the saying that more people fail the series 7 than the bar exam? What does that say about our legal system? ha

Don't forget that the series 7 is chock full of great stuff on munis. Who can live without that knowledge, it's priceless.

Maybe because more people take the S.7. I know people who failed it multiple times, but I just dont see how. I studied for the better part of 3 weeks and scored an 87. It was 10 times easier than L1.

You said you know people who failed it multiple times, what did they use to study? And don't lie, you know everyone in a firm uses pretty much the same stuff. It was Dearborn wasn't it. ;)

No one at either shop Ive worked at has EVER failed the 7. I have a few friends who had sh!t degrees and got jobs working retail brokerage who talked about how hard the S.7 was, and also thought that what I do and what they do is the same thing. I just shake my head at them.

In 9 years in the industry I have met 2 people who have failed the series 7...1 guy had failed if 6 times and finally gave up. Sad thing was really wasn' t stupid or anything...But how can I defend a guy who failed the 7 6 times.

I passed the series 7 about 6 months ago with about 3 days of studycramming. I think I used Dearborn, borrowed the books from a colleague.

Do lots of practice questions/tests.

Know how to calc option breakeven and payoffs under different scenarios

And for some retarded reason, they ask a rediculous number of questions on municipals and the whole muni underwriting process so be familiar with that

Why only 3 days? It takes longer than 3 days just to open the testing window at most firms and find an open test date. You must have procrastinated. :)

I am the king of procrastinators. I had to sign up about a month in advance at the prometrics center. Had the best of intentions about studying, but..

I already had my series 6, had passed levels 1 & 2 here, and just didn't think it could be that hard.

No one ever really cares what you score. Anything above passing means you wasted time studying when you could have been doing something else.

back in ancient times when i took the CPA exam and you needed 75 on each of the 4 parts to pass, we would joke about shooting for the 300 club.

That's funny. Well at least you passed.

I couldn't imagine failing any exam 6 times. That's got to be a confidence booster for the original poster of this thread. ha

Good luck! I hear the test gets harder every year. When I took the 7 there were spelling errors in the exam. They probably corrected that by now and added a lot more tougher questions. Maybe something on Iron Condor Spreads? Seriously though, I think Reg NMS is on this years exam. Ask everyone here what that is...ha

Ok, I passed 7 and 63 using Securities Training Corp (STC) and on May 9th passed 24 using STC too. STC claims they have been doing it for 2 or 3 decades. go to their website and check it out.

Actually, just got 27 material from STC 2 days ago.

My current work is my first job in US and I have been with this company just about 1 year and 9 months. The company asked me to take 7 and 63, now they are asking me to take 24 and 27. I just took June level 1, failed last Dec on my first try.

In 1 year and 9 months, I took 7, 63, 24 (twice) and Level 2 times------ 6 licence exams and now before the Jun result come out in late July I will have to take 27. What kind of life I am living???? Work during the day, and have to study during the night.....

Thank God that I am yet a single, otherwise.............

I used STC materials and sat for the 1 week class.

I know people that failed the S7, but it was because they weren't paying attention to the questions. The test is such that you have to pay attention to the question and understand what it is asking. It isn't overly difficult, just don't rush through it.

use STC, the tests are harder than the real thing imo. I studieds for a week as it would be terribly embarassing to fail and I studied too much and got an 86. you should be shooting for a 70, anything above that is really wasted effort. its not hard material just alot of material.

Our company provides us with Dearborn. Just skim the material and take the practice exams and set up for the real test. A week max. The 7 exam can't even be compared to L1. I only know 2 people who didn't pass the first time. One just has paralysis of analysis (she only took it once)...the other, whose job it was to sell securities, took it six times and failed. Mind boggling. He doesn't work for us anymore.

I just hope I passed L1.
