Series 87??????

I am transitioning from the Buy to Sell Side (Equity Research)...My senior analyst mentioned that I would need to study for the Series 87. I do have my CFA Charter. I thought that I as exempt from taking this exam with a CFA Charter. If I am wrong, how hard is this exam? Thanks.

You may be exempt from the Series 86, which is the analysis half of the exam (if you have been continuously working as an analyst since finishing level II). You are not exempt from the 87, which is the regulatory half of it.

I assume it's your standard NASD regulations memorization routine.

Not that hard. Take a couple practice exams if you can find them and you'll be fine. I actually missed it by 1 question the first time because I just 'showed up'. I took two practice exams before the retake and scored well into the 80s.
