We have divided the full group of failed candidates into ten approximately equal score bands. Your score band below shows how your overall score on the exam compares with all other failed candidates.
For example, if your reported score band is 1, you scored in approximately the bottom 10% of failed candidates. If your reported score band is 2, your score was within the next band width ranging from approximately the bottom 11% to 20% of failed candidates. If your score band is reported as 10, you scored in the top 10% of all failed candidates.
Performance band of your overall score among all candidates who failed the exam: 9
*** needless to say, i’m feeling awful….

don’t bother retabulating save yourself the money. I was in the band 10 last year and so I know exactly how you feel. Frustration, demoralization, I know I know….but you’ll get it over it and you’ll likely pass the next time like me…and I put in less than half the hours this time around because I knew all the material.
Time heals…you will be ok

Save your money. I was a 10 band last year. If you were that close they would have already rechecked your exam. Crack it next year. I paid for the retabulation last year and nothing changed. Not worth it in my opinion.

I am in the same boat (band 10) - I was thinking about a retab as well but read thru the form and changed my mind - I don’t think they remark the answers but will only re-add the scores
It sucks, but we should be able to kick ass next year…

thanks for the responses guys, really appreciate it….i couldnt’ believe it myself, i thought i nailed all the long essay questions and i thought the exam was one of the easy ones…compared to the past papers that i did, i came out of the exam room with a great level of confidence and thought i was well on my way to earn the charter. i guess not.
Just wondering, would they re-mark the long essay questions or do they simply add the numbers all up again?
I have one friend who claimed he had a retab and got passed. Of course I’m taking that with a grain of salt only.

thinking about retabulation too. Cant believe I scored so bad on IPS. but even if I did, my score should be high enough. Must have been a high MPS this year.
anyone ever had success with retabulation?

ugh… I’m on the opposite end. I had an inkling that I might have failed, but was totally surprised when I found out I was in the low band. I checked my answers on this board after the test and even though I didn’t get everything right, I thought I got a good portion of them correct.
I know this sounds like whining, but might there be some technical glitch? Something like poor formatting of the answer, or skipping a line when filling in the bubble, might there be a mixed up or something?
I knew I might have failed but I didn’t think I failed this miserably. It’s like I shouldn’t have even bothered to study.

Guys, you may look at another thread “Is a Regrade Ever Worth It?” for more info.
I am considering a regarde myself as well, though it does look like a one in a million shot!! I think I will make the decision this coming weekend.
As a first-time dad and had taken my level III first-time while my babyboy was eight months old, I wish I won’t have to go through the whole thing again. Did enjoy the studying materials but not taking tremendeous time away from my lovely little one. Please see my result below:

superchef…your 40/60/80 is 59% in the AM, and 72% in the PM with an overall 65.5% score.
I passed and was 69.8% AM, and 60% PM with an overall of 64.9%…I know these are really rough numbers; nonetheless you are obviously super close to a pass and I also hear everyone elses points about not wasting your 100 bucks….then again if your morning session was your weak one, you could in fact stand to gain some points back to push you over the top should the grader give you some leeway which wouldnt be so easy if you were in the opposite position of having a sweet AM and crappy PM….I say spend the $100…worst case is you are out $100, best case is that you just passed!

A retabulation has never, ever resulted in a changed status for a failure. Ever.

Hi westbruin,
I made 67.0% for the entire exam with 80/60/40 calc. The AM section is 58% and the PM is 76%. Perhaps CFA Inst. put more weight in the AM on the total score. Or there is a minimum passing score on each of the section.
I lost lots of points in the first 4 essays of the AM section (portfolio mgt). In fact I spent substantial time trying to answer this important portion and it caused me to rush/skip many questions in the 2nd 1/2 of AM section. I wonder how others performed on these 4 essays. I guess I will take a look in the other postings for the sake of my curiosity and anxiety.

pay the $100 James…it isnt much and if there is even a small chance you pass, why wouldnt you?

Is there any evidence/data to support your statement?
Most unlikely? Yes. Never? Will need to some evidence to believe.

Unless the graders completely missed one of your answers or they incorrectly added your points, your score will not change. It is a retabulation, not a regrading. To be perfectly clear, no one is going to reread your answers to determine if you really deserved a 6 on an essay instead of a 4. That being said, there is a very, very small probability that the graders actually missed one of your answers and you could pick up those points. I personally paid the $100 for the retab last year when I was a band 10. I knew the probability of my score changing was basically immaterial, but the piece of mind that the $100 bought me was well worth it. If $100 is a fairly large amount of money for you though, I wouldn’t bother.

I feel the pain in this thread. I sent in my retab request yesterday at about 10:30 ET (the fax# was busy – took 3 attempts). What’s another $100 after laying down so much $$$ to CFAI? Then again, it’s my second year in a row of being in band 10, so I may just be extra bitter. This just doesn’t look like a fail to me… (10 >70%s!)

The Stalla guys told us there has never been a Retabulation they were aware of that changed a grade from Fail to Pass.
As everyone is mentioning they simply add your score up again. They do not regrade any questions. I know I had bad a terrible layout in that I crossed an entire question out on the exam and rewrote it towards the end, and that question was found and graded.
My point? Not sure how likely ther are to have missed one of your answers in its entirety.
If you do send it in, Best Of Luck, as they say there is always a first for everything.

I think if you got anything from Band 7 to 10, you may give it a try. If you try, maybe there is 0.0001% chance to change your faith. If you don’t, then it is surely 0%.
I failed with a Band 8, and I am also thinking of retabulation.

** got the retab results email in the inbox today - well guess what, a fool and his $100 was soon parted.
As requested, your June 2009 CFA® examination was manually retabulated to ensure that no errors were made in the scoring of your examination.
Your examination was verified by candidate number and name and was carefully reviewed to ensure that each answer was graded and that the score was recorded correctly. The total score of your answer book and answer sheet was compared to your total score in the CFA Institute database.
No errors were found and your original score remains unchanged.
Sincerely,
Ms. B. Evans

I think this says it all:
“Your examination was verified by candidate number and name and was carefully reviewed to ensure that each answer was graded and that the score was recorded correctly. The total score of your answer book and answer sheet was compared to your total score in the CFA Institute database.”
1) They look at your answers and make sure that they have graded them.
2) They compare score on your exam with score in database
So they don’t regrade the exam. They just check for big mistakes like missing an answer or entering wrong score in database.
