Should I really have failed L2 (band 10)?

The matrix is designed to give you a general idea how you did in each section (fail/pass/killed-it). It is not designed (and therefore does a terrible job) in showing you how you did overall.
I made up a spreadsheet that calculates people’s min and max possible scores for all the L2 matrices posted on AF. The average range between min and max possible scores is 23%. That is, in general, two people could have the same matrix although one of them got 60% (fail) and the other 83% (easily passed). There was one person (whatsyourgovt) that has a min possible score of 50% and a max possible score of 80% (this person failed). While there is another person (lankylint) that has a min possible score of 49% and a max possible score of 74% (this person passed).
Don’t read too much into the matrix. Some look terrible but are still consistent with a high max possible score - while others look great but are still consistent with a low minimum score.

Good work with the analysis. I would agree with most of what you’ve written. What surprises me, however, is that I completely bombed the ethics section and still managed to pass. There are folks who got a band 10 with > 70% in Ethics and a better overall scorecard. This makes me feel that the ethics adjustment is minimal at best.
Agreed. I got less than 50% in ethics and still very border line passed.

I think i might have the weirdest passing matrix
>70% Alternative Investment, Equity, Financial Reporting
<50% Economics & Corp Finance
the remainings are in the 50%-70% bucket.
