Going through a 2012 CFA sample paper question 7 ask for “show your calculation” to determine leverage and duration.
I deduced this using math. Then I noticed that CFA had a proper formula. Does anyone knows if they want you to calculate using the formula as they show them it the book or if it ok to deduct the math manually? Do you get zero if the answer is right but not showing their formula?
Thanks,

You always get marks for the correct answer IMO.
Your own formula should be a derivative of theirs. I think.

Always be safe and show the base formula as you get 1-2 points for JUST doing that (even if you don’t know the rest), although I don’t think you need to derive the formula. Remember, time is key and the Institute knows that.
