How would you answer this interview question:

Why do you want to make a career move from a big bank to a small sell-side botique firm like ours?

(or)

What do you like about a small botique firm like ours?

portmgmt,

how big is the difference and is it in their bonus or the base salary.

claiming money as the motivating factor (even if it's the real factor) doesn't seem to be good answer.

Doesn't this totally depend on what type of position you are applying for? Well, of course it does...

it depends on the position...
what if you were doing IT and then got in the "small boutique manager" for finance role?
successful transition?

it depends on the size..
what if you were in citigroup...and then go into a local manager with FUM of 20m?

it also depends on the responsibility...
if you were in citigroup doing little work...you now have the ability to make decision!!!

i can think of at least 5 to 10.....just gotta know the situation....
this is the most basic type of interview question...nothing technical.

rule of thumb...."learning focus"...say you have the responsibility to learn a lot
more....or being a ble to take on more responsibilities...

Arrow, those are probably questions you should have answered prior even applying at the boutique shop.

Takumi, Pat and numi, It is a small sell side shop near Denver. The position is Research Associate. Currently I am a Risk Analyst for a top 10 US Bank. So yes this is a career transition

tell them you you like their values/focus/etc and that you want the opportunity to help them build their franchise
