So...I am taking the classroom Stalla Course, and not complaining (as I have made a sizable investment in taking this class and hope that investment pays off), but....

Included with the class is a series of CD-ROMs containing the recorded national version of all of their lectures. Many of the lectures are given by this guy, Peter Olinto. I don't doubt that the guy knows his stuff, and I have seen some positive comments about him here, but he starts each lecture by saying "We're on our way to a CFA!" Is it just me, or does this phrase sound to you folks like a violation of the standards? I would think that sentence falls under the whole "using the CFA designation as a noun" rule. Just something that rubbed me the wrong way, I guess....

I've been through a couple of the DVD lectures so far myself but only had Bob Stalla as the presenter. Aside from his dollar bill ties (!), I find him very good and like how he consistently presents in the context of the test. One thing he keeps saying is "you've got to read the text before coming to class". I still get some good nuggets even if I attended the actual class...
I'll keep a look out for Olinto's CFA comment but I think you are right that is technically incorrect.

Only seen Olinto's so far. Like I said, guy's good, but it doesn't sit well with me that he starts of quite a few of his lectures with a phrase that sounds to me like it violates standards.

gangrel - relax, he doesn't violate the standards. I would suggest studying the ethics chapter again.

I am relaxed. Have read ethics and do quite well on questions. "CFA" and "Chartered Financial Analyst" should be used as an adjective, never as a noun. In other words:

"I am a CFA Charterholter" - no violation

"I am a CFA" - violation

"We're on our way to a CFA" - I would say that the "a" before the term "CFA" is a dead giveaway that he is using it as a noun.

Time for some straight talk.

You guys do not deserve to be called MEN. Somebody tells you, you're not supposed to use CFA as a noun, and here you go, parroting the idiotic rule. You are hoping to make it as traders/analysts? You know what? I will use CFA *any way I like it*. I'm a CFA, d*mmit, and if you don't like it, go take a hike.

Geez, guys. I can't believe your ancestors fought in the WWII for the freedom of the world. You are pathetic. Go see your doctor re: a prescription for a PAIR OF COJONES.

There.

FC - CFA Institute would like to talk with you.... :D

Wow easy there, big guy.

I think it goes without saying that in our daily interactions we all use the acronym however we want. I for one couldn't case less what part of the speech it falls under in each particular instance.

The main point here though is that, the guy who gets paid huge bucks to TEACH eathics violates the rule so flamboyantly.

If I used Stalla I probably wouldn't care either, but it's a point that deserves some merit nevertheless.

FourCastles is more aptly named FourBozos [FB]. I, too, am a charterholder. And a Marine. Too bad that FB can't experience the joy of looking at his nanocojones as the Institute wraps them around his neck and then jams one in each ear. He could then get a brain transplant to get his IQ out of single digits. Macho men have a piece of spaghetti where their spines out to be.

Hmmm...this said with no idea whatsoever what my background is or what my study plan is.....very interesting....

The question I raised in this thread has nothing to do whatsoever with what topics I am concentrating on in my studies. Merely had to do with an observation that was smacking me in the nose every time I checked out a video lecture by this guy.
