Huh?

No, you don't HAVE to read it to pass the exam. Schweser alone can make you pass the ethics section. However, it is highly recommended that you read this book to better your chances of passing the Ethics section.
 
Instead of buying the entire CFAI material I used the a book they offer on the website. It covers about 13 of the readings but includes all of readings 1-5. (Ethics, GIPS, Goverance) plus readings 25, 30, 32, 34, 36, 37, 38, 61. its around 380 pages.

Can't remember what the CFAI number is but the ISBN number is 0-536-94750-3

I think it cost around $60, used it to supplement texts, Stalla Questions, Allen Notes/Questions, Shweser questions/notes.
