Reading is for poor people who can stream video to their phone.

And agricultural subsidies etc. etc.
However, it looks like BobbyG is serious about reducing spending at the Pentagon. Although I wish he hadn’t cut the F-22, as the F-35 is less capable and is going to cost a similar number. Oh well, time to focus on developing the 6th generation fighters.

what do you think halo and cod are for?

Four-year bump here…..
Anybody plan on watching this?
I probably won’t. I used to watch SOTU, but I realized that it’s really more of a commercial for the President’s politics than it is about apprising Congress of the nation’s state. (This is particularly true with our current administration.)

the POTUS is just pulling a tmobile. big shock promises that sound great. too bad he’s never actually run a business and has no concept of spending what you have, or any thought 5 mins beyond the short term.

Congress should order the Capitol Police to arrest the illegal alien, mid-speech, that Obama invited. That would be pretty awesome.

The Executive has the power to pardon criminals, and the granting of visas, etc., whereas the Congress does not have to power to execute laws, only legislate them.
There is an interesting irony, though, that if the “illegal alien” is there in the first place, it has to be with the President’s permission, which by definitiion means that they aren’t there illegally, because it implies the President’s pardon. You might still argue that they are “undocumented aliens,” but I’m pretty sure the secret service went through over a ton of documents before deciding on inviting them.

The Capitol Police report to Congress, not the President, and have jurisdiction within the Capitol. I would think that Congress could legitimately order them to arrest the illegal alien. And can a President “pardon” an illegal? Congress sets the rules for naturalization, so if the President pardoned an illegal, that illegal would still not be made legal and thus would be in a state of law-breaking after the pardon. Can a pardon be applied to future acts?

Interesting, the man would have to be convicted before the President is able to pardon him, so it looks like the Capitol Police should be able to arrest them, and perhaps detain them in the Capitol Jail. Does the Capitol have a Jail? I suspect not, though maybe one of those cushy senator’s offices would work.
At the same time, the executive has discretion in how laws are implemented and can do things like provide immunity in exchange for various things such as testimony against higher-ups, but presumably can offer immunity via other stuff too, like sitting around and waving at the SOTU.

I don’t think someone needs to be convicted before a pardon. Didn’t Gerald Ford pardon Nixon before Nixon ever went to trial?
Regardless of the outcome, it would be pretty fun to watch if it happened.
Of course, I’m sure Obama chose a “typical” illegal alien. Some guy who saved a little girl from a fire or something such that any such move would result in one of Obama’s typical juvenile Internet-style flame wars.

^I don’t know. Given the backlash from the prisoner swap for Sgt. Bergdahl, he’s got a pretty bad PR track record right now.
