Sent it in mid-July. CFAI approved the work experience in 5 days.
It’s been almost 40 days and the society hasn’t done jack.
Anyone emailed CFAI before the 40 days is up to ask “whats up with this?” It’s kind of absurd. To me it shouldn’t matter. I would think - if the CFAI approves it why would the society have to even bother.

Wow…yours got approved by CFAI relatively quickly! My completed application was submitted on Aug. 6 and CFAI is still in the “Work Experience Review” under status. Somewhat afraid that I may have to withdraw and re-submit my application if it doesn’t get approved by the end of this week.

I didn’t realize that the society had to (or had the authority to) approve work experience. So … what? … CFA Institute could approve you and issue your charter, and the local society would say you’re not good enough?
Weird.

I don’t think this would stop using CFA designation once CFAI has approved it.

I think it would since you need to be a member of your local society in order to be a reguler member of CFAI.

CFAI sends along the application for membership, correct? Or do you have to contact the society separately?
I’m logged in under My Applications and it has 2 rows, one for CFAI and one for the local society. The “submitted work experience” and “approved work experience” both read 70 months for the CFAI row but it reads 0 months for the local society row. Does this indicate my application wasn’t submitted to the local society? If so, why would they be on this page to begin with? I’m confused :-/

Mine says the same. 60 months approved for CFAI society, but 0 for local society. Still says “Under Review - Society” as status.

70? 60? Man that is looooong… I thought it goes to zero from 30… Mine shows 28 days… NYSSA… can you guys write your societies too? Maybe you are talking about the same society and which means they need new management, and in my opinion it is unacceptable to make candidates wait this long…

Mine says the same thing (0 for society) however, both have approved status. the local society was approved at the same time as the cfai one.

@Henriko, I believe the 60/70 refer to the number of months of work experience that has been approved. The 30 to 0 countdown is the supposed thirty day time period during which Societies are supposed to review and process your membership application.

individual societies only meet once a month. So you might need to find out when your particular society meets for the process of approval of the candidates who have been approved by CFAI and are now going to become new members in the local society.

yeah so they give you 40 days for the local society to approve - figuring if they meet once a month it should be within a 40 day timeframe.
Maybe my society is lazy.

They might be on vacation. NYSSA approved mine within a week after CFAI (who approved after a week). So it was all done within 2 weeks but I did it before exam results came out and just waited to pay until I knew I passed.

Mine got approved within 1 week (both CFAI + local society) - Already paid the dues. Can I now use the CFA designation? Or do I need to wait for a formal communication from CFAI?

you need to wait until September 4 when CFAI will award the charter

You may wish to send your society an email. I did and I got the approval same day. I am not sure that they need to meet as a committee to approve. I suspect certain individuals have the power to approve.

Question for people who have been approved:
Do you receive any email confirmations letting you know that you have been approved or do you just have to keep checking the website?
