Anyone use these video CDs for much of their studying for level 1? I'd appreciate any comments regarding their use. It seems like they could be the basis for studying as they seem to cover all the material. But, since they are only 40 hours, I'm sure you'd still have to hit the study notes.

I would agree that you definitely need to go over the notes, but to me (if I've had more time to prepare for level I) I would have gone through the entire set of video CDs simply because I learn better when someone tells me the info then I read the notes and practise some problems myself. I mean, I find it boring to just read the study notes without using some other tools to help you remember stuff; however, some people would definitely find reading more useful to them (A friend of mine was advising me not to use the video CDs because she found them a waste of time)...

Therefore, it depends. I'd say it's what you think will help you learn the concept better and remember it afterwards which might be different from my way, e.g.

I am waiting for the results to come and I hope to be in a good shape to study for June 2007 CFA level II examination.

I forgot to say that I went through one or two video CDs covering parts of the "Financial Statement Analysis" and I found them rasonably useful, that particular lecturer didn't have a good sense of humor though. I am with the saying that "Don't try to be funny when you are not" (My own saying) loo00ool...

The videos definitely got me thru levels 1 and 2 and (hopefully) level 3. There are exceptions within them (ie instructors who suck like last year's L2 ethics guy) but you can use the videos as a basis and then use the notes to expand on topics that you need asistance with, and the chapter end questions for practice.

I watched the videos and then read the CFA texts.

But I don't have a degree in business so I wanted all the help I could get.

The video's usefulness really depends on the instructor. A couple of them just read out the bullet points from the slides. This didn't help shed any light on the material at all so so I stopped watching their segments. Other instructors were really interesting and made the material easier to learn.

I would recommend watching the first twenty minutes, judging how much you're learning, and then either stopping or finishing.

Two and a half hours per session is a lot of study time to waste on something that is not helping you understand the material.

I'll continue to buy these all the way through the CFA program
