I know it sounds highly stupid but it is happening with me again and again on my texas BAII calculator

when i put FV=3000, i/y=1 and N=8 CPT PV

I get -41,028

what i need to change the setting to get the right answer

Anybody can help me??

you have to either put the FV or PV in as a negative and then the other will be a positive.

True, cam, but no future value earning a positive (albeit excruciatingly miniscule interest like 1%) rate of return is going to result in a present value of $41,028.

With the monthly compounding default used along with the above inputs, I get -$2,980.07 for the present value. Solving for FV and using the known inputs, I get $2,999.92. Hence always be sure that your advisor calculates performance to the fourth decimal place.

check if PMT is set to 0.looks like you have set up a payment/deposit of 5000 .
press 2nd CLR TVM and retry
