Like many on here, I am interested in switching careers over to the finance side, perhaps ultimately an investment banking role on the corporate advisement/buy side. What Id be interested in hearing, are the thoughts from others about what types of activities/experiences a non-finance working professional can participate in to add a small sliver of experience to the picture.

My basic situation is that I am a professional engineer who manages a product development department for an international construction equipment company. We have been acquired in the last year and although I was kept on, things have changed dramatically and it is time to move on. I have just finished an MBA and am now studying for the first CFA exam. I am also taking the Canadian Securities course and tutoring current MBA students in the finance subjects. Other than capital budgeting decisions, I have little work experience in finance. Although I am keeping my eye out for possible opportunities right now, I am wondering what other activities I might engage in that would ultimately help me be more marketable in this industry these would be activities that I could do while continuing my current employment. I am in the Toronto area if that makes any difference.

Any suggestions or comments would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Although I would have never admitted to it earlier, start playing golf!!!! I guess I'm getting older but it helps.
