Okay, so you plan to come back to Oz?

Someday, but not in the near future. europe is tops!

http://www.imd.ch/

That's where you'd want to be if you are going to be in Switzerland.

Speaking of OZ, what's going on down there with the alleged rascist attacks on Indian students?

Anyone out there to tell the true story?

I hear its a scam. Isn't this the summer camp for rich kids who can't get internships?

People are robbing the indian students cos they are soft targets, then throwing in a few racist remarks and it blows up.

Its a shame, because I think we will lose a lot of future students, and our uni's depend oin them paying the high fees, so us aussies can get cheaper fees.

Also a shame because I can tell you australia is much lest racist then most countries, especially europe, and its painting us ina bad light considering.

Some newspapers are reporting that, now, Sri Lankan students are also being attacked.

If this is a media hype, its really shameful.

If things are as bad as the reports claim, the governemnt officials should hang their heads in shame because of their failure to stop this nonsense.

I read this somewhere on the net: Education is Australias third largest export industry worth more than AUS $15 billion a year, with about AUS $2 billion coming from Indian students.

If only those rascist people could understand some basic economics...

I think its more because that indians are easy targets for these dickheads, they're always out travelling alone to different jobs late night/early morning, they're easy targets for groups of idiots mugging people. I'd probably be bashed travelling some of these stations at night if I was alone. There are racists here, but we're not a racist country.

I also think there is hypocrisy in the Indian media for sure an Indian is much safer in a Sydney train station than in New Delhi any day. Out of curiosity, I cross checked how many Indians were attacked in New Delhi train stations at similar odd hours. Last weekend it was 70 against 1 attacked in Oz. Worse still, racism is official in India through their caste system.

That said I do not condone these attacks. Australia is not heaven but it is far much tolerant than Europe or USA. The BNP party in the UK (which surprisedly has won seats in the European Union parliament) is officially racist and we all know the official stand of the stupid GOP on immigration. The only such a party with extreme views in Australia was I think One Nation, but since nude photos of Pauline Hanson (the founder) were exposed she went underground.

I think a lot of westerners comment on the caste system without understanding it properly. When it started the caste system was not rigid as it is now. People who were good enough to do higher end work were promoted to a higher caste (just like you get promoted in the corporate world for good performance). It started becoming rigid probably about 500 years ago and become more institutionalised under the British. The British in fact recruited people from the upper caste for the civi services.

I dont know what you mean by caste system being official in India. No one can deny a person a job based on his caste, if they do they can be prosecuted. In fact a lot of jobs in the govt are reserved for people from lower castes. 50% of the seats in colleges are reserved for people from lower castes (much better than the affirmative action in the US).
While the caste system is a problem at a social and individual level its not at the institutional level. This problem is certainly not unique to India, people from the sub continent are treated very badly in the middle eastern countries. What annoys me is when people talk about the caste system in India without undrestanding anything about the problem.

The "stupid" GOP is opposed to illegal immigration, just like virtually every government in the world, including Australia. Visit Australia's Department of Immigration and Citizenship to see how "easy" it is to become an Australian citizen. Be sure to visit the "Managing the Border" section. Then build a huge land bridge from Australia to a really poor country full of people who would literally die to live in Australia and let us know how "tolerant" you are. To quote Tony Blair "A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in and how many want to get out." And by the way, the US has a larger immigrant population than Australia has total population. In fact, the US immigrant population would rank as the 34th largest country in the world. The undocumented immigrants would rank 73rd, bigger than Greece, Belgium, Portugal and Czech Republic.

^ I am American dude. And yes Australians are torelant, and the GOP is the party of Stupid People.

Someone with a different view is automatically stupid? That's a very tolerant, educated position. I'm sure whatever political party you identify with is really proud to have your support. At the risk of letting facts get in the way, try looking into some voting records. Our President and our secretary of state joined 25 other Senate Democrats in voting FOR the Mexican border fence. So, I guess there are at least 27 stupid Democrats too.

I'll give you most of Fox News, but Keith "Sportscenter" Olberman and Rachel Maddow wouldn't have jobs if they didn't have Fox New to hate on. And speaking of tolerance, the very Democratic-leaning people of Maddow's own state don't support her and her partner marrying. Regarding the GOP, be a real shame to wipe out the contributions of the likes of Lincoln (one of President Obama's biggest influences), Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, Ike and Reagan.

I agree with Joe2010 about Australia being less tolerent than some of the European countries.

My close friend was born and brought up in Germany (he is non-german, lived there for 28 years, now in the U.S.), told me Germany and the surrounding nations, while very scenic are highly rascist.
