taking notes while u read

Yes, but I just don’t copy the notes from the text books. I read a concept, then rewrite the concept in my own words, based on my own understanding.
 
I do…but only becoz i have a memory of a goldfish!!
 
Yes, but after going through 3 books and going back to look at book 1, you’ll probably realize a lot of those notes you wrote down have been forgotten!
 
The first time I read through I usually scribble a few notes on the key concepts pages which I later use for revision. I take detailed notes on my 2nd readthrough. I find that it helps me remember things better especially if I’ve rewritten it in my own wortds like drakesterling suggested earlier.
 
That’s really the right way to do it - “in your own words”. That, plus doing lots of practice exams, is key to passing the exam.
 
I don’t take notes, but I might rarely write in the margins. Did the same thing at level 1.
I also attend a review class, where I do take very few notes, because most of the class is verbatim what they present in the powerpoint which we have copies of, and same from the textbook.
I just: read all the material once through very quickly (in about 2 months). Then read all the material again, 1 SS/wk (give or take), and do about 5000 practice questions for all SS. Then in the last month, I only do practice questions, approx another 5000. Plus that review class. And I also listen to MP3s a lot, during sleep, in my car, and sometimes at work.
On a related note… I get a kick out of people who highlight material in the Schweser texts. Each page is about 75% highlighted. Does this really make it easier? I feel the same way about notes, where if I took vigorous notes, I’d be paraphrasing literally everything in the Schweser texts, and that simply will take too long. I certainly believe writing will enhance memory (subconsciously), but there is just too much to write. I’d prefer to spend time reading the materials a few extra times and doing way more practice questions. Schweser ARE my notes.
 
What i experienced is that one you prepare your own notes you tend to retain lot of information. During my level 1 I started preparing notes in september when i revising the whole course and it really helped me in retaining information.
 
Print out the LOS for the chapter your reading and just highlight each point as it appears in the reading before you take your notes.
This will help in two ways, first it will save you a bunch of time on taking notes on stuff you don’t need and second, it will ensure that you have covered everything that could be tested. After doing this I would go through and make notes and note cards.
