Tired of Money

To me, money is extremely intoxicating to tell the truth.
I could write an essay: “The Beauty of Money” –by IEV. Even better, Chad could organize the 2011 Analyst Forum Writing Congress as part of the AF 2.0 festivities, and the only topic would be our love for money.
I’ll compose a requiem too.

If a great deal of your level of happiness and satisfaction with life is dependent on comparing yourself to others you’re in trouble.

My mantra is simple, live below your means 95% of the time, and above it 5% of the time. The worst thing u could do imho is to buy stuff like expensive homes, expensive cars, jewelry, etc as you’ll continually raising the cost of your lifestyle (meaning you’ll be on the workforce hamster wheel for a lot longer since u need to pay for your next car, which will likely be more expensive). A big house makes no sense at all from a number of reasons, including A) Its more expensive to maintain (plus higher property taxes/insurance/electricity) , B) You have to spend more money furnishing the place, C) Its less intimate, if u have a spouse/kids, you’re more likely to not see them in a big crib.
I live in the same apartment and drive the same car now as I did when I first got out of school 7 years ago and was dead broke, I splurge on vacations from time to time (Especially on restaurants, went to Alinea in Chicago last month, will blow ur mind), with majority of my post-tax income going into the market (mostly high dividend, low beta equities). I’ll be d@mned if I’m still working because I need to when I’m 50.

^ I cannot believe that is only your 11,000 post or close to it. Where have you been?

you forgot to mention women. they are the reason that 99 percent of guys need a big house, jewelry, and flashy cars.

xabat77, what the heck have you been up to over the last few years? Drop me a line – gotta update you on a couple things and would love to hear how you’ve been. Didn’t realize you were still around…you made an impressive guest appearance.

True but there’s nothing wrong with a little healthy competition.
