trouble recalling corporate finance behavior

hey all.
what’s the behavior called when the ceo takes on projects purely out of ego. basically projects they take on without regard to the company’s well-being purely motivated by his own ego.
it’s been a long time since i’ve seen the material. but this hit me while i was driving back from work today.
