Did anyone of you recent college grads ('03 or '02 grads) see kids who were still in college ('04s or '05s) taking level 1 this year? i saw like four or five kids from my college who still hadn't graduated from undergrad and were taking the exam.

must be a trend with the exam demographics. everyone wants to get a leg-up for bulge-bracket interviews...still though, very young group i thought

You theoretically have to have a degree by December to sit for L1, no?

i dont know...i saw kids who were graduated in mid-june

You do have to have a degree.

However...at my school, my finance teacher had his CFA charter, and would sponser the top three students to take the exam pending graduation.

I however was only qualified at that time for a test involving drinking mass quantities of beer. What an opportunity that would have been.

Met 3 ex traders at L1 - now switching careers - all from good firms GS, ML and DB.

Also met a guy 35+ taking L1 who had a PHD in Physics from Harvard in London - quite an interesting character!!

Ex-traders taking the CFA? Any insight on why they are doing this? I was taking the test to build my credibility to become a trader-- maybe that was foolish.

I'm with you "Convex". I'm not saying that is the only position I am willing to take but I am trying to get of the accounting department of a major bank.

I really don't want to spend $40,000.00 on the MBA. But there are a lot of different avenues that you can take with the certification...so I just look for the end result...or at least being able to put "CFA Candidate Level II" on the old resume to get the foot in the door.

CFA-OK

I got a letter asking for degree confirmation from AIMR since when i registered last year i didn't have it in hand. Anyway long story short as per AIMR degree must be recieved by DEc 31 of the year you take the exam, otherwise you they will void your scores. It did say something about allowing for unusual circumstances etc but basically, no degree no grade.
