I was accepted to UMASS-Amherst. For those in IB or BB, what the rep on the street with Isenberg school? High ranking with Princeton Review.

Good party school. Watch out for the clap though.

I think Umass is one of those places that if you are planning on staying in the NorthEast you should be fine.

I think you graduate from the Clap once you get your BA. The MBA program (Isenberg school of MGMT), which I am refering to, is not a party school.

I will be in the Northeast. I gues what I am looking for is what do the big BB, IB firms think of the school in terms of value and prestige???

Please don't compare to Harvard and MIT--I know there great. I'm looking for UMASS posts. Thanks for your in in advance!

I'd be shocked if any of the BB recruit at UMASS.... let's get real here. It is barely 2nd rate.

What other schools were you accepted to?

UM-Ann Arbor. But UMASS is rated 2nd in the priceton review? Dansteshek are you from the NE area?

I went to college in CT, but now I live in California.

Michigan is easily in the top 20 in the US. UMASS is not in the top 50.

Michigan average GMAT over 50 points higher

89% of Mich grads have offer by graduation vs only 63% for UMASS.

No brainer.

I agree with Dante. No brainer. Michigan has a huge presence on the street and has a much better reputation then Umass. I'd go Mich.

Definitely Michigan over UMass. The only reason I know even know where UMass-Amherst is is because I know where Amherst College is. In other words, I don't even think UMass-Amherst is really on the same playing field.

I plan on staying in Mass. So, given that, anyone for NE or Mass can give insight on the value of UMASS MBA combined w/CFA. Would that be a competitve profile for a Associate PM in say Boston or NYC? Thanks in advance!

The CFA is what is going to make you marketable. That MBA in my opinion won't do anything or very little for you. Basically the only way it might help if there is some PM who went to that school and wants to hire you.

Really? How about those cuurent PM or associates. They ALL have an MBA and most have a CFA designation, those that don't are senior analysts or traders. I would assume that the MBA is a sorts a prereq and CFA is a speciality.

I work on the buyside in New England and agree, def Mich over U Mass. Ultimately if you are a star you can suceed from any background, but as far as getting your foot in the door a Mich MBA will do more for you.

I wouldn't spend your time on the UMASS MBA (this is coming from a Boston native who is a big UMASS fan). Go to Michigan! If you're not smart enough to figure this out, I have no idea how you even got into Michigan. I'm not trying to flame you, but really this is a COMPLETE no-brainer.

ZForce,

I think if you are dead set on staying in Boston/NE you should look at better schools in the region. If you can get into Michigan you can easily get into BC and BU, which are much more expensive than UMASS but will provide much better connections in the Boston/NYC area and a better education. Don't bother with Northeastern though (it's an expensive UMass).

Whatever you do, don't go to UMass. I grew up in the Amherst area, went to BU for undergrad (graduated last May), and after working for a year in the Boston area it seems UMass would only hurt you when trying to get into these positions (compared to just having the CFA). Like Dante said, the MBA will provide most of its benefits as a recruiting platform and BC/BU will do much more for you in that sense (BC is probably better for inv mgmt and they seem to care of each other more).

Also, if you were planning to go to UMass part time, there are not many good jobs in that area except for MassMutual in Springfield while Boston has a lot of opportunities for its size.

This is the worst advice I have ever heard, An MBA is worth so much more than CFA when it comes to getting a job.
