Use of highlighter - I got a violation report!

I took a highlighter for the AM exam though i never used it as the proctor told me that it was not allowed before the exam started and i disposed of it. It only occurs to me that this is a serious offence as i have received a long violation report though at the end it says this was just a caution.Relieved but shocked!
I had not fully read the rules on the ticket re this and i assumed highlighters will be allowed. In fact my Kaplan tutor recommended highlighting key points on the AM answer sheet to flag out key points to the examiner.
Hope this is a good lesson for next time!

Your culprit is the Kaplan Tutor.
Give him a good mouthful. Anyway, it is just a caution. No harm done.

If I could ask, did you get an email stating that you would be receiving your Level III results on 11th August?? The reason I ask is because at my exam centre, a friend of mine brought in a ruler for the morning exam. The proctor saw the ruler half-way during the AM session, took it and gave it back to him after end of the session. We dont know if she reported this or not…. We did not seek to find out…
He was worried he would get a violation report instead of the email notifying him on receiving exam results. He however received the email on results date on 7 July 2015. He thinks he is now off-the-hook… but of course he wouldn’t be if you received both the vilation report and the results notice..

Did he actually just ask you to underline the keywords/points in your writing? And you thought it was a highlighting - so surprised a Kaplan tutor can recommend bringing a highlighter!!!
