Variance, Std. Deviation, Weighted Means, E(r)

Just saw which ur referring too. Try clearing the data. Did u change it to 1-V and put it in %’s rather than decimals?
 
oh i got it.. i was entering the numbers then pressing the % button. sorry i misinterpreted you!
its working great now!
so just to sum it all up..
when we have ONE set of data with each datapoint having an EQUAL chance of occurring.. we use the LIN stat function and enter the data in the “X” fields only.
if we have ONE set of data with various probabilities of occurring.. we use the 1-V stat function.
GREAT work njlevel10610. this has gotta be one of the best posts on AF. I’m surprised other prep programs dont teach you how to fully leverage your calculator!
 
Should the STAT function be set to LIN. Could somebody please explain the difference between all the STAT functions. If you have clear instructions on how to calculate covariance and correlation, given a joint probability matrix, with a TI BAII+ calculator, please share them here! Thanks!
 
with the baII plus you cannot or at least i don’t know how to simply get the covariance but obviously you can get it’s products . r/std. dev a and b from the stat results
LIN for 2 stocks…..X for stock 1 and Y for stock 2
1-v for 1 stock. X for the actual returns given. and use the y for frequencies/probabilities. (put both inputs as whole numbers and not %)
for 2 variables with prob- i still dont know how to do it, if its possible. i would call TXN support line and please post the results if u can.

Reminds me, don’t forget the Direct Method of write-offs is NOT GAAP and the Allowance Method is. It’s covered in FRA “understanding I/S”
 
Quick Question - What do you do when the question is like this
-10% EPS 1.80
20% EPS 1.60
-40% EPS 1.20
30% EPS 1.00
I tried solving it putting the -ve signs in and my calculator returns Error. Please help
 
It seems that it only work with positive data for the return (as in the EPS example).
 
I just tested it with negatives for the returns, it’s working!
try these
5.2 at 10%
2.5 at 40%
1 at 30%
-1 at 20%
SD should be 1.7549

Why would you put the probability as negative? 10% is P (10%) which is entered in the Y and you put the returns, regardless of signs in X. I think you will be fine. Error sometimes comes up when you forget to clear the data.
