I think, ideal age would be (maybe) 25. But, it's never early (and never too late) to learn.
I have university diploma in economy. My major was Business Statistics.
I have 6 years of work experience in different business fields (all in pharmaceutical industry) like: sales, marketing, and now controlling.

Average age of people trying to achieve CFA charter is, i think, very difficult to estimate. This forum is not "representative sample".

Sure, this forum is not represenative...

CFA has official numbers, as i remember thay have histograms for age distribution, and if I remember correctly the smallest percentage was below 25 years....

Anyway, start earliest You can, and You'll finish earlier!!!

Good Luck to all of us.

I'd say: Get work experience, get direction- where you wanna go exactly - and what role will CFA play -

I think work experience before gaining CFA is vital...

Ideally you can start CFA program after, say 3 years... and continue work as you go through levels... This will enable you to see the effect of CFA on your work, will help you a lot determining your preferences!

Management by Objectives!!! (Or managed by objectives;) )
That is right approach. Agree.
