I’ve shared my general rule in life that less is more on several occasions. The trend of cheap watches that have 80 different things on the dial drives me absolutely nuts. If you are spending less than $5,000 on a watch, it should only give you the time, date, and possibly the day. If you want a watch with a chronograph, altimeter, barometer, and thermometer, that goes by the model name “pilot”, “aviator”, or “mariner”, or any other implication that people have worn it on the moon or at the bottom of the ocean or on a Formula 1 racetrack, it better cost more than $5,000.
This is of course in regards to purely decorative watches worn in the office or while going out. I have a watch with some of those functionalities that I wear while skiing. I also have a watch with some of those functionalities that I wear while running marathons.
Cheap watches with a ton of crap on them look cheap.
If you are going to spend a grand on a watch, go with something classy.
