Have a second round interview for an analyst position with a well known Private Wealth Management and Investment Management firm.
Details of the role include analyzing investment portfolios and financial situations of prospective clients, running analysis and models for wealth planning, asset allocation, and portfolio design as well as creating customized presentations and pitchbooks for prospective clients.
What type of technical questions can I be expected to answer? Anyone want to venture a guess as to the total comp for a role like this? (major metro area)

I suspect you’d get technical questions about portfolio theory, sharpe ratios, how to quantify risk, etc.
 
Thanks SD… Nuppal- how do you like what you do so far, what would you say the major pros and cons are?
 
So far I LOVE my job. It keeps me busy enough to show my bosses that I can work my a s s off, while providing enough time for me to be able to go to the gym and go out on the weekends.
Some days are slow (like when the boss is travelling) and some days are insane, like last Thursday when we got a check for 8 figures and we had to build a portfolio for this guy and at the same time prepare the pitchbooks for a VIP client.
All in all it is a very interesting job, it forces you to stay on top of the markets and the developments (which I love) and it also forces you to try and analyze a scenario from many different vantage points.
I haven’t had enough time to fully experience the full scope of what I will be doing but I would say if you have a shot at this job, take it.
 
Great thanks Nuppal… Any insights on interview questions to prep for? Im a l3 candidate so I figure it shouldnt be terribly difficult.
 
If you’re at L3 prep levels you should knock the interview out of the park.
Most of the questions I got (that were not behavioral) were questions about current economic/financial events. Risk tolerance. Portfolio Theory. Pretty under grad level stuff. Honestly, even if you just follow what articles we post here and what people talk about here then you should be fine.
 
Depend on your title, IM associate for IM? In Atl, it starts around $70-$75K with year end bouns.

PWM and IM are completely different.
PWM…maybe 40k-50k base. I’ve seen those numbers in NYC and ATL.
 
A lot depends on where you are. PWM Analyst in NYC at BB usually start at 60-70k base.
In bigger banks, it also depends on what division your group is apart of. For example: My group was originally part of the Global Markets Division, but now is apart of our bank’s Global Wealth and Investment Management.
Lanikai, are you in Hawaii by any chance? Where do you live?

Yea I was reading WSO and starting base for PWM at BB in NYC is like 0-5k sign on, 50-70k base, and 5-10k bonus. 70-80k all in 1st year
 
Nope, don’t live in Hawaii unfortunately. Travel there often as you might guess…
Comp wise - That’s about what I expected….
Just curious - how are exit opps from PWM? What is the typical career path there?
 
The clients. PWM caters to individuals and families. IM caters to insitutional clients. They both have obviously different needs/goals.
 
I am getting into PWM after undergrad. Most of my technical questions were about current markets, etc. and were designed to see if I understood asset allocations and risk tolerances for different types of clients.
“If I gave you $10 MM and your grandparents $10 MM what would you do with it and why?”
 
Role sounds very interesting Nuppal. What can you expect to take home after 5-10 years?
