Hello all,
Just curious as to what you guys think about this strategy:
I started studying a few weeks ago, and I’ve calculated that I should be through all the Schweser readings by the 2nd week of January. I have currently been studying about 4 hours on both Saturday and Sunday, and then 1 hour twice a week during the weekdays. So in all, it equates to about 10 hours per week (although about 80% is on the weekends). I’ve been completing all the Schweser EOC questions and CFA EOC questions as I go through the readings.
Once I finish all the readings, the only thing I plan on doing from mid-January until exam day is banging out questions whether they be redoing EOCs, Schweser Q-bank, or mocks. I see some people saying they will do a second read through the material, although I feel that simply going straight to questions would be more efficient.
So to recap: I am currently doing about 10 hours per week, I will do nothing but questions from mid-January to exam date, and as I get into February-March, I will ramp-it-up to about 15 hours per week.
What do you guys think of this plan?

I think that it will be more efficient than a second read through the material. The results on your questions will redirect your focus after that. I think that is pretty much the base that we are all striving for. It is the minimum that is expected, and then will give a 50:50 chance of passing.
Potentially a CFAI read would be better. The readings are not as lengthy as previous years. That is a matter of preference though. Personally I have read CFAI material thus far. 3 chapters left. Previous levels I used schweser as CFAI was too much for me.
Good luck.

I like it, minus Q-Bank (bad ROT, return on time). I always did a second read through but it was just over my highlighted areas. Given your ahead of schedule, it wouldn’t hurt but I do like your set up.
Maybe a slight modification would be to spend like 60% of your weeks taking Q’s and mocks once you complete the readings and spend the other 40% going back to re-learn your weak areas. Then ramp that up to like 80%/20% closer to exam.
Also, do TONS and TONS of mock essays. This is more important for getting the cadence of the test taking style down versus learning concepts. Its very, very different than anything you’ve seen at I and II.

When you mean, you go through the reading, will you be retaining much?
Nowhere did you mention, taking notes. It is great if you can finish Mid-Jan. Last year I finished my Schweser Feb-end, and passed.
I took notes, you should too. Take notes and practice EOC in how to ANSWER THE QUESTION. MC in generally has a low variance among test-takers so you have to be in the upper tail for essays.
NOTES, NOTES, NOTES

Thanks for all the advice,
I think I should be able to retain a decent amount of the material given that I haven’t really run into anything that’s too difficult to grasp, yet…
As far as notes go, I do take some notes in the margins provided as well as highlight. However, I feel like the Schweser material is pretty condensed and its safe to assume that almost all of it is important. Therefore, I haven’t been taking as many notes as I did during the first two levels, which I feel was time that could have been better spent.
When I said I wouldn’t do a second read-through of the material, its because I will basically revisit all the information anyway as I start hitting the questions. I will constantly have to reference back to the books and probably read through certain sections again; I’m just not going to actually sit down and literally read them all over.
