OK you crafty veterans, I would like to request your feedback in putting together a report format for the exam benchmarking email. You’ve submitted a lot of results and I now have a lot of data to work with. What do you want to see in the exam benchmarking report?
For example, I was thinking it would be more valuable to compare your results to the population of passing exam results for a couple of reasons. If you passed, this shows your areas of relative strength and weakness (think level I and level II candidate because you are soon the be a charterholder <grin>). If you failed, you already have the CFAI band information so you know where you stand relative to the other people who did not passes. This approach will provide you with information on what you need to do to get into the passing bucket.
Thanks for your input on this.

Some sort of analysis of who passed with what score using which materials. It may not end the “Source materials or Schweser” discussion, but it would be a good starting point for those asking the question.

* Strongest/weakest topics across all candidates and levels - for pass/fail & combined - all combinations of this. (i.e strongest topic for fails L3, weakest topic for pass L2, etc)
* Validate or bust the myth that you can’t pass if you score under 50% on Ethics
* Best score (how many got >70 in all topics) and worst passing score. (Who received the most <50 and still passed)
* Outliers? How many (if any) that scored 2stddev/3stddev from the mean and passed/failed
* AM better or PM?
* for L3 - anyone do better on the AM then PM? (Most passes I saw were below avg AM and above avg PM)

A numerical score based on some methodology (40/60/80) and data on estimated MPS.

Good points by ZeroBonus. Would it also be possible to “rank” the results submitted? And probably add a “quartile” figure.
For example -
  • Format: L3Crucifier <Passed/Failed> the CFA-L3-2012 exam and is Ranked <Position> out of all the <PositionsSubmitted> results submitted placing him/her in <1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th> Quartile
  • Pass Example: L3Crucifier Passed the CFA-L3-2012 exam and is Ranked 2972th out of all the 4577 results submitted placing him/her in 3rd Quartile
  • Fail Example: L3Crucifier Failed the CFA-L3-2012 exam and is Ranked 4299th out of all the 4577 results submitted placing him/her in 4rd Quartile
Also some other statements like these
- “We have ranked the universe of results submitted from top to bottom and candidates ranked 3014 and lower have failed the exam. Rankholder 3013 was the last candidate who passed the exam with an estimated MPS of 61.23%
- “The top ranked candidate has secured > 70% in 8 out of the 9 AM categories and 9 out of 9 PM categories”
- “We will be offering $200 gift voucher to L2Crucifier for being the dubmest on AF, yet passing the exam, so that s/he can re-buy the 2013 books and take CBOK more seriously”
- “Also offering L2Crucifier and ZeroBonus “boardmember” positions to moderate Water Cooler forum for providing invaluable benchmarking report format suggestions”
Thanks You

Excellent points. Also I’d like compensation for my boardmember position.

When do we see the report? And I still don’t see myself being upgraded to “boardmember” status!
