what if I don't pay CFA membership dues?

I joined the CFA institue last year and have paid dues once. I was wondering if I can still renew my membership,say next year, if I don’t pay dues for year 2008-2009? I am not currently working in the finance field, and I don’t think I will later, so I have to pay dues out of my own pocket. Not sure if I can skip one or two years.
 
If you don’t pay you can’t call yourself a CFA but as soon as you pay (and sign the ethics thing) you are a good CFA person.
 
you’ll become an unethical person immediately and your nose will begin to grow each day…at least that is what CFAI would like us to believe
 
Does your college charge you annual fees in order for you to continue to claim your degree? You paid for it, you earned it, that’s it.
 
From an employment perspective, does it make a difference as to whether you have the CFA charter versus passing all three exams, assuming you have relevant work experience? For me, passing all three exams is as good as getting the charter itself, because frankly I don’t really care if people pay dues – I just want to know that they’ll kick ass for me if I hire them.
 
Even if I can’t claim CFA charter, I can still claim that I passed all three levels on my resume, right?
 
of course, and you definitely should. i usually see lines that are simple as this:
* Passed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Exam
 
What about putting similar statement on your business card?
I suppose one advantage of paying the due is to save you some space on your business card….

Sure you could b/c it’s a statement of fact (assuming you’ve actually passed them), but it would look cheesy
 
if you want to rejoin in the future, I seem to recall having read somewhere that they make you pay dues for the years you missed
 
So you’ve passed your exams, but you don’t have the experience requirement. You don’t need to pay up to be a candidate. You don’t have the experience to write ,CFA on your card. Do you still need to pay?
I can’t imagine they would let that slip, but what is the functional difference between paying and not paying in that case?
 
Yes, I have passed all the exams but my experience is still about one year short. I was wondering if I skip one or two years’ dues, will my membership automatically get renewed if I pay dues two years later when I actually can use “CFA charter”, or I have to reapply membership again like a brandnew person?
 
you cannot even become a regular member of a CFA society until you have the experience, so as i understand it, no question of having to pay any dues until you are eligible for / want the charter.
AFTER getting the charter, not paying is different issue, as discussed above.
 
If you passed three levels but you don’t have the experience to be chartered. Are you eligible to pay your dues?
 
I got an email from CFA institue a couple days ago saying that I need to pay $300 something dues by July for 2008/2009 year… That’s why I posted this question here. hope to get some useful infor.

did you sign up for some kind of affiliate membership after passing your exams?
