The United States doesnt issue the govt equivilant of zero coupon bonds. But through the STRIP program, you can essentially do this by separating the principle and interest payments into separate products. So someone can then purchase either the stream of interest payments, or the final principle payment.
....indeed. An acronym for separate trading of registered interest and principal securities. Caspian, in regards to your first comment, what about T-bills? I think what you meant was that they don't issue long-term zeros.
